Synetiq BMW will compete with another all-new rider line-up for the 2021 British Superbike Championship season after bagging race winning pair Danny Buchan and Andrew Irwin.
The outfit – prepared by TAS Racing – ran Bradley Ray and Taylor Mackenzie to modest success in 2020 but have after just six rounds together they have departed to make way for an eye-catching line-up in Buchan and Irwin.
Irwin comes on board despite an impressive season aboard the new factory Honda CBR1000RR-R that yielded three victories – the second highest number of anyone across the six rounds – though he couldn’t translate it into fighting for the title in the final event unlike his brother and team-mate Glenn.
“TAS has a lot of racing history and is a team I’ve always looked up to, so there’s lots of motivation to be competing at the sharp end of British Superbike on the SYNETIQ BMW next season. I’ve raced against the BMW this past few years and have seen first-hand the potential of the package.
“I can’t wait to get started now on the all-new M 1000 RR. I’m still young in terms of my Superbike career and not yet quite the finished article, but I’m hungry to learn and keep improving and together with the SYNETIQ BMW team; I believe we can do that.”
Joining him on the team’s new BMW M 1000 RR superbikes will be Buchan, who exits FS-3 Racing in favour of a move to BMW machinery for the first time.
“Obviously I’m looking forward to joining the SYNETIQ BMW team for the 2021 season. It’s a big change for me, but one I’m excited about, working with a new team and a new crew on the all-new BMW M 1000 RR. Let’s get to work with it and get it up at the front next season in BSB.
“There is a really positive buzz around the team and I’m well aware of the success TAS Racing has had over the past 20 years. All of those ingredients are what helped make my mind up to change to SYNETIQ BMW for the 2021 season. We’ve got a long lay-off now before the start of next year, but I’m looking forward to getting started, testing the bike and working with the whole team. It’s great motivation to keep myself in top condition over the winter months.”
